Comments:
The Yamaha SGV300 is part of the SGV "Samurai" series, a line of guitars that were essentially reissues or modern interpretations of Yamaha's highly distinctive and collectible 1960s electric guitars (specifically the SG-2, SG-5, SG-7, and SG-12 models). The original models, known for their unique offset body shape and "samurai" headstock, are highly prized by collectors and surf rock enthusiasts. The SGV series (which included models like the 300, 500S, and 800) was introduced around the year 2000 and manufactured until approximately 2006. These reissues brought the classic, eccentric design to a new generation of players. The guitar's design is heavily associated with vintage surf rock tones and aesthetics. They are known for their great build quality, especially considering their price point, and a very smooth, reliable vibrato system that stays in tune well. A notable feature is the pickup configuration and controls, specifically the "balancer" knob that allows players to blend the middle and bridge pickups for a wide range of usable single-coil tones. The neck is also described as being quite thin and fast, which appeals to many players.
