Comments:
The Rickenbacker 450, a two-pickup version of the 425 (which notably was played by George Harrison), was part of the "Crest" or "Tulip" series, which began in the mid-1950s. While the 400 series started as a student-focused line, it quickly gained professional status due to its solid-body construction and unique electronics. By 1974, the Model 450 featured the "cresting wave" body shape and was known for its "neck-through-body" construction, which provided excellent sustain compared to the bolt-on necks of many competitors. It was a transitional year for the model, as the “Toaster” style pickups were replaced that year by high-gain single-coil pickups, giving it a punchier, more aggressive output. The "Mapleglo" finish was highly popular in the 1970s as it showcased the high-quality Eastern Rock Maple that Rickenbacker is famous for.
