Comments:
The Martin HD-28V was part of Martin's premium Vintage Series, a line specifically designed to replicate the look, feel, and sound of the highly sought-after pre-war "golden era" Martin guitars of the 1930s and 1940s. It was built upon the foundation of the standard D-28 and the subsequent HD-28, which was introduced in 1976 to bring back herringbone purfling and scalloped bracing. The "V" denotes the "Vintage" series specifications, which included several key features that distinguished it from the standard HD-28 of the time: modified V-shaped neck profile, open-gear tuners, aging toner finish on the top, and a distinctive long saddle. A critical tonal difference was the use of forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing. The X-brace was positioned closer to the soundhole than on the standard HD-28, allowing the top to vibrate more freely, resulting in increased volume, sustain, and a prominent, booming bass. The HD-28V was produced from 1995 until 2018, when many of its key features were integrated into the "reimagined" standard HD-28 model.
