The Martin 000-42M Eric Clapton is a limited edition signature acoustic guitar model inspired by the vintage 1939 Martin 000-42 that Eric Clapton famously played during his iconic 1992 MTV Unplugged performance. This performance was a pivotal moment that revitalized interest in acoustic music and the smaller-bodied 000-style guitars, leading to a long-standing collaboration between Clapton and Martin. Eric Clapton's primary acoustic guitar for his MTV Unplugged concert was a vintage 1939 Martin 000-42, which was reportedly given to him by Stephen Stills in the 1970s. The success of the concert and the multi-million-selling album it produced led to massive public interest in the specific guitar model. In response to overwhelming demand, Martin and Clapton collaborated on their first signature model, the 000-42EC, released as a limited edition in 1995. The initial run was limited to 461 guitars (an homage to his 461 Ocean Boulevard album) and sold out almost immediately. This Eric Clapton 000-42M is a limited edition acoustic guitar made by Martin Guitars in a second run around 2007-2008, limited to 250 instruments. It features a Carpathian spruce top, Madagascar rosewood back and sides, an ebony fingerboard, and Style 45 abalone pearl appointments, including Eric Clapton's signature between the 19th and 20th frets. It is a premium model known for its high-quality tonewoods and intricate detailing.
