This 2024 SG Special is part of the Original Collection, which focuses on returning to the classic designs that defined Gibson’s "Golden Era”. The SG Special was originally introduced in 1961 as a more affordable, mid-tier alternative to the SG Standard. While it lacks the trapezoid inlays and humbuckers of the Standard, it became a legend in its own right—famously used by Pete Townshend at Woodstock—for its raw, aggressive P-90 punch. The Vintage Cherry finish was reintroduced to the core lineup around 2021/2022 to replace previous finishes like Pelham Blue. The "Demo" engraving on the back of the headstock indicates this guitar was destined for artist demonstration / promotional purposes.
