Comments:
This Gibson LG-1 from 1953 is a small-bodied, ladder-braced acoustic guitar produced in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Positioned as an entry-level or "student" model, it is prized today for its distinctive woody, boxy, and warm bluesy tone, contrasting with the richer, more complex sound of its X-braced siblings (LG-2 and LG-3). The LG series was introduced in 1942 as a line of small-body flat-top guitars. The LG-1, LG-2, and LG-3 were initially all X-braced. However, after production was suspended during World War II, the LG-1 was reintroduced with more economical ladder bracing and a sunburst finish, which became its defining characteristic after the war. Throughout the 1950s and 60s, the LG-1 remained a popular seller, known for its value and quality materials at a low price point. The LG-1 was featured prominently in several Elvis Presley films in the 1960s as a prop guitar.
