Gibson introduced the Les Paul Traditional line in 2008. It was designed for purists who were unhappy with the design shifts of the 2008 Les Paul Standard (which introduced heavy chambering, asymmetrical necks, and locking output jacks). The "Traditional Plus” designation indicates that this model features an upgraded, highly figured Grade-AA flame maple top over the standard plain maple top.
