This Gibson J-50 was manufactured at the Bozeman, Montana factory in 2012. This era of J-50s (1990-2012 production range) featured standard specs and was often available with an added pickup system, making them stage and studio-ready. The Gibson J-50 was originally introduced in 1947 as a natural-finish alternative to the popular, sunburst-finished J-45 model, which was introduced in 1942. The key distinction was the finish: a natural top required a higher grade of blemish-free spruce, leading the J-50 to initially carry a higher price. Over the decades, the J-50's specifications largely mirrored the J-45, with changes in pickguard shape (from small to a larger tortoise tear-drop/50s style) and bridge design (from rectangular to the "belly-up" style) occurring in the late 1940s and early 1950s. It became a favorite of artists like Bob Dylan and James Taylor.
