Introduced in 1937 as the "Super Jumbo" and later the "Super Jumbo 200" (SJ-200), the J-200 was Gibson's top-of-the-line, large-bodied flat-top acoustic guitar. Known for its commanding presence, powerful sound, and ornate detailing, it quickly became a favorite of country and western stars like Ray Whitley and later musicians across various genres, including Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. This guitar was produced in 1993, a significant year for Gibson, as it was just before their centennial year in 1994. This era of Gibson acoustic production in Bozeman, Montana, which began exclusively for acoustics in 1989, is highly regarded for its return to vintage specifications and quality craftsmanship.
