Comments:
The Flying V was first introduced in 1958 as part of Gibson's "Modernistic" series. Originally made from Korina (Limba wood), it was considered too radical for its time and discontinued by 1959 with fewer than 100 units sold. It was later popularised by legends like Albert King, Lonnie Mack, and Jimi Hendrix, leading Gibson to reissue the model periodically starting in 1967. This 2016 model pays homage to the original 1958 aesthetic by using a Natural finish and Gold hardware, though standard 2016 production models used Mahogany bodies styled to look like the original Korina. Unlike the 1958 originals, which featured "string-through-body" chevron tailpieces, this guitar uses the more modern and stable tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece configuration, closer to the specs of the 70s models.
