Comments:
This 2019 Gibson Custom Shop 1965 Firebird V Reissue is a high-end recreation of a pivotal transitional model in Gibson's history. While the original 1963 "Reverse" Firebird featured a neck-through design, the 1965 "Non-Reverse" version transitioned to a more traditional set-neck construction to reduce manufacturing costs and respond to legal pressure from Fender regarding body shape similarities. The Firebird series was originally conceptualized by Ray Dietrich, a legendary automotive designer, which explains its sleek, car-inspired curves and "offset" aesthetic. In mid-1965, Gibson flipped the body and headstock orientation. This 2019 reissue replicates that specific "Non-Reverse" design, which features a flatter headstock and a double-cutaway mahogany body. This model features Vintage Original Specifications (VOS), which includes a hand-applied nitrocellulose lacquer finish and lightly aged nickel hardware to mimic the patina of a well-preserved original 1965 instrument.
