Comments:

The Gibson “Everly Brothers” model, also known as the J-180, was introduced in 1962 and was originally produced until 1972. It was developed as a signature acoustic with specific aesthetic features requested by Don and Phil Everly. The Everly Brothers played Gibson J-200 models early in their career but desired a slightly smaller, more manageable guitar for stage use. They approached Gibson, and the resulting signature acoustic was created, based on the J-185 body style but with a thinner profile. Don Everly devised the iconic double "tail-fin" pickguards to protect the guitar's top from his vigorous strumming style. The guitars also featured unique star-shaped inlays on the fingerboard and headstock. Fewer than 500 of the original run were made. The model was discontinued in 1972 but reissued later under the J-180 name in the mid-1980s, and has since seen various reissues and artist signature models (e.g., Billie Joe Armstrong J-180).
