Comments:
This 1964 Gibson ES-335 TD is a classic example from the final year of Gibson’s "Golden Era”, and a highly collectible guitar reminiscent of the models played by Eric Clapton and Alvin Lee in the sixties. Finished in a vibrant Cherry Red nitro lacquer, 1964 models are visually distinct for their sharper horn shape (often called "pointy ears"), which replaced the more rounded "Mickey Mouse" ears of earlier years. This specific year is highly prized for its neck profile, often referred to as the "64 Medium C." It is slightly fuller than the ultra-slim 1961–1963 necks, offering a feel more reminiscent of the famous 1959 profile. 1964 was also the final year for several desirable "pre-corporate" features. In 1965, Gibson moved to narrower nut widths and trapeze tailpieces, making 1964 models significantly more valuable to collectors. Other key elements from that year are the PAT pickups and the sophisticated pearloid block inlays that replaced the dot inlays two years prior. All these elements combined make it both a collector’s dream and a fantastic instrument to play.
