Introduced by Gibson in 1958, the ES-335 was the world's first commercial semi-hollow body guitar. It was designed to merge the warm, resonant acoustic properties of an archtop with the sustain and feedback resistance of a solid body guitar. While the initial 1958 run only featured Natural and Sunburst options, the iconic Cherry Red finish was introduced in 1959. It quickly became the signature aesthetic for the model, famously slung by players like Eric Clapton or Alvin Lee. This 2021 model features Gibson '57 Classic pickups, designed as exact electronic clones of the late-1950s PAF (Patent Applied For) humbuckers, utilizing Alnico II magnets to yield a warm, velvety mid-range tone with highly articulate top-end bite.
