Comments:
The Gibson EC-20 Starburst is a rare, stage-ready electro-acoustic guitar manufactured in 1998 at the Gibson Bozeman, Montana factory. This specific model was part of a limited run of "Electric Collections" (EC series) designed to offer high-end aesthetics and reliable performance for live performers. The EC-20 was essentially a rebranding of the earlier Gibson Starburst and was eventually replaced by the J-180 EC Cutaway (or J-185 EC) in 1999. Designed by master luthier Ren Ferguson, the model was intended to be "stage-ready and flashy," prioritizing high-quality electronics and stunning visual appointments over traditional acoustic resonance. The Starburst series famously faced production drops in the early 90s because Gibson's plant manager failed to secure a supply of highly figured quilted maple, which was instead bought up by Paul Reed Smith (PRS). Left-handed versions of this model are particularly rare and sought after, appearing occasionally at specialist auctions.
