Comments:

The EB-0 was introduced in 1959 as Gibson's entry-level, short-scale bass. It was designed to appeal to guitar players and those who found the massive upright bass or the longer-scale Fender Precision Bass cumbersome. This 1960 model features a "slab" double-cutaway mahogany body, which was aesthetically identical to the Les Paul Junior guitar of the same era. This is a significant year for the model, as it represents the final full year of the original body style before Gibson shifted to the "SG" body shape in 1961. Known for its "Mudbucker" pickup, the EB-0 produced a massive, dark, and thumping low end that became a staple of 1960s rock, most famously used by players like Jack Bruce (Cream) and Felix Pappalardi (Mountain). Early 1960 models often still featured rear-facing "banjo-style" tuners, though Gibson began transitioning to side-mounted cloverleaf tuners around this time. These were almost exclusively finished in Cherry Red, a translucent stain that allowed the mahogany grain to show through. Over time, these often fade to a "un-burst" brown or orange hue.
