Fender Japan was established in 1982 to produce high-quality, vintage-accurate instruments for the Japanese domestic market, which were often considered to rival their American counterparts in craftsmanship. The "JD" serial number sequence began in 2012, when Fender transitioned its Japanese numbering scheme to a new format where the "JD" prefix stood for "Japan Dyna," indicating it was produced at the Dyna Gakki factory. This specific model, the TL62-US, is a 1962-style reissue. These models were highly regarded for combining the vintage aesthetic and feel of a 1960s Telecaster with practical, modern performance features. A key characteristic of the "US" designation in this series was the use of genuine Fender USA pickups, providing an authentic American vintage tone that distinguished it from lower-end Japanese models with local pickups.
