This 1982 Fender Dan Smith Stratocaster, officially known as the Standard Stratocaster, was a turning point for Fender, marking a conscious effort to improve quality after the company's tumultuous CBS era. Under the direction of Dan Smith, Fender's marketing director, the Fullerton factory reverted to several pre-CBS specifications while also making modern upgrades. Key features include a return to a four-bolt neck plate and a smaller, pre-CBS style headstock, though it maintained the large black CBS-era logo for a time. The guitar also abandoned the 1970s-style "bullet" truss rod and returned to the body-end adjustment.
