This Fender Japan JB-STD/PJ in Candy Apple Red combines the slim, comfortable ergonomics of a Jazz Bass body and neck with a hybrid "PJ" pickup configuration, this model represents Fender Japan's modern approach to flexible, standard-tier workhorse instruments. While Fender historically kept the Precision and Jazz bass designs strictly separate, they introduced hybrid PJ configurations to offer players the "growl" and narrow feel of a Jazz Bass alongside the deep "thump" of a Precision Bass split-coil. The JB-STD tier was engineered specifically as a high-quality, utilitarian line mainly for the Japanese domestic market, though many have since been imported worldwide. Unlike American-built models of that era which heavily favored Alder or Ash, Fender Japan standard lines frequently utilized premium Basswood. This lightweight wood provides a highly balanced, neutral acoustic resonance that lets the hybrid pickups define the amplified tone.
