The SG-800 was positioned as a working musician's guitar, similar in construction to the much pricier SG-1000 and SG-2000 models but with slightly different appointments, such as a rosewood (rather than ebony) fingerboard and chrome hardware instead of gold, distinctive split pearl triangle inlays and a cream pickguard, differentiating it from the later \"dot inlay\" SG-800S. It features a set neck construction which enhances sustain and is a hallmark of quality instruments. A significant feature is the \"Bi-Sound\" system, or coil-tapping, achieved via push\/push switches on the tone pots, offering versatile tonal options from humbucker power to single-coil brightness.
