Comments:
In 1992, Eric Clapton performed on MTV Unplugged playing a vintage 1939 Martin 000-42. The massive commercial success of the performance and album single-handedly revived global interest in smaller, short-scale "000" auditorium guitars. Following the broadcast, Martin initially released a highly limited "000-42EC" signature model in 1995, then due to overhelming demand developed a more affordable, non-limited signature version based on the Style 28 chassis which officially joined the permanent catalog in 1996. Unlike the standard 000-28 of the 1990s, the Eric Clapton model was designed to mirror the structural properties of pre-war acoustic guitars. This included the use of historical "herringbone" soundhole and body trim, a wider neck profile, and scalloped internal top bracing.
