This 1962 Höfner Colorama II is a vintage German-made electric guitar known for having been a budget-friendly alternative to American guitars during the British beat boom era. The Colorama series (known in Europe as models 161/162/163/164 depending on configuration) was the brand's best-selling solid body line in the 1950s and 60s, imported into the UK primarily by Selmer. The most notable feature of this specific model is its finish: the body was covered in a red vinyl material with white piping around the edge, a method that saved time as the guitar didn't need to wait for paint to dry. The classic Höfner control consul was dropped that year in favour of a rectangular control plate with switches and rotary knobs. The pickups on that model were exclusively the "diamond logo" type, named for the diamond shape stamped on the cover.
