The Les Paul Special was introduced as a "middle ground" model between the student-level Les Paul Junior and the professional Les Paul Standard. It retained the lightweight "slab" mahogany body of the Junior but added a second P-90 pickup and a more decorative pearl "Gibson" logo on the headstock. This finish was officially called "Limed Mahogany,” but it is widely believed it was designed to look white on black-and-white television screens without the harsh glare of a true white finish, hence the “TV Yellow” name. 1950s P-90s like the ones on this model are famous for their "growl" and "bite" that sits perfectly between a standard single-coil and a humbucker, overall making this the perfect rock ’n’ roll guitar, and an exceptional piece of guitar history!
